Sentosa Cove House Two

This house is built on one of the smallest plots for detached houses in the southern part of Sentosa Cove. However, across the waterway, is a golf course putting green which gives the house a much more spacious feel despite the size of the land that it sits on. This ‘borrowed scenery’ makes the grounds of the house seemingly endless.

The design of the house is such that the side facing the golf course is virtually transparent so as to maximize the views from within the house. In keeping with the tropical design, this transparency is not achieved in the form of vast glass panels but rather sliding & folding doors, shutters and louvres which can all open to allow natural ventilation through the house.

The plan is essentially 2 blocks joined by a stairwell which is expressed as a “cage”. Its external walls are mostly porous panels of adjustable louvres in glass and timber. The staircase itself comprises flights of open risers to accentuate the lightness of the stairwell.

Recycled railway sleepers from old Malaysian railway tracks are used here extensively as paving on the ground, fence paneling as well as customized outdoor garden furniture.
